Junior Certificate

The Department of Education and Skills introduced a new framework for the Junior Cycle on a phased basis in September 2014. The rationale underpinning the new Junior Cert is to enable learners to achieve their full potential and contribute to Ireland's economic, social and cultural development.

1st year students in 2018/19 will undertake new subject specifications in Gaelige, English, Maths, Science, Business, Visual Art, French, Spanish, Home Economics, History, Music & Geography. During the transitional period, the current Junior Certificate syllabuses for subjects will remain in place until they are replaced by the new specifications in accordance with the phasing schedule. (See parents information sheet).

Scoil Mhuire students will undertake Short Courses in Social, Personal & Health Education (SPHE), Civic, Social and Political Education (CSPE), Digital Media Coding (CO) & Physical Education (PE).

The JCSP is on offer as a support to our students to ensure that they do the very best in their Junior Certificate examinations. The Junior Certificate School Programme is based on the concept that all young people are capable of real success in school and that they can have a positive experience of school.

As a progressive school we are continually updating our curriculum and developing the programmes we offer at Junior Cycle, Transition Year & Senior Cycle.
