Work Experience

All work experience will finish up on Wednesday 16th of December. Please take a thank you card and evaluation report with you today to get filled in and returned for the 16th. We are extremely grateful to all the businesses who have taken students on in such difficult times so please express our appreciation to them before you leave. It would be a nice gesture to give them a small token of your appreciation also. Maybe a box of chocolates.

The forms for your new work experience placement will be available next week. You are encouraged to find a different placement if possible let me know if you are staying in the same place and why. Always remember to be careful when in any business and follow all social distancing and mask wearing guidelines.

If you have changed work experience please update your information with your well being teachers as they are ringing around the work experiences this week.

Caolan Collins please see me.

Scavenger Hunt

This photo hunt took place on Tuesday last. It was most disappointing that so many students didn’t make it back on time. I have a prize for the winners, which I will come around the classes with.

Enterprise Day

Are all businesses ready for this? Are you out of class this afternoon? Yes 4C

Christmas Jumpers

Christmas jumper day will take place on Monday 22nd of Dec. I need six volunteers to organise this. I will send an email out in a while. Unfortunately Ms Grant does not allow this to be organised by YSI as she uses the money from the Christmas jumper day to give to charities the school has promised to support like The Foyle & Donegal Hospice.

Tic toc

Looks like the student council are going to be running a similar competition to this so I'm going to let them take this one on. Please get involved and enter into the christmas spirit.

Christmas Egg-Baby Project

We are going to run a Christmas Egg baby project. You will be asked to bring a Christmas Egg Baby to school this Thursday, Friday & Monday. You will mind it during school and at home and sit it on your desk in each class. The Egg should have a name as it is your baby! Treat it like part of the family, take lots of pictures of it’s adventures and send them in to my email. I will make regular posts on social media of how your charges are getting on. You can make a little cradle or bed for your baby to be carried in. This is just for the craic!!!, Hopefully not! The management and caretakers are a bit dubious about this so please don’t let me down. They think there will be messing going on. I have said that I fully trust you to do this properly so here’s hoping. Obviously the egg cannot be cooked and should be drained. This makes it more fragile. Here’s some inspiration.

Room Decoration & use

Ms Grant has asked that all rooms are decorated for Christmas. Please bring in decorations or put a couple of euro in each to decorate. The canteen has complained that some decorations have been taken from there and used in TY rooms. I hope this is not the case. Please return anything if it is.

There has also been complaints of horseplay and untidiness in these rooms. You will be asked to vacate the rooms at break and lunch if this continues.

Please make an effort to keep the supervisors on your side with this.

We really need to work on everyone's uniform, particularly the PE uniform. Please make sure you are wearing the sweatshirt and dark bottoms only. Navy or Black are your only options. Strictly no other colours allowed. Ms Grant is insistent on this.

Final call for the next youthscape project. 20 places for TY students. Please email me your names.

Digital Music Project

Exciting project coming up in the new year. More details to follow soon.

Sign Language

These classes will start after christmas. They will be a Monday or Tuesday after school. Each class take a vote and let me know which day suits better. Prob be 4-5pm

Pop goes Primary

Need a committee of 8 for this . Like the Christmas jumpers I will send an email requesting names later today.

Under current restrictions tug of war and first aid cannot go ahead at the minute. Hopefully we will get them booked when things relax.

Why not enter our Frame of Mind short film competition?

Calling all secondary schools and amateur film makers - be in with a chance to win a €1,000 prize by using film as a creative way to challenge mental health stigma or show the importance of positive mental health in our Frame of Mind short film competition.

This year, we even have a brand new TikTok category for secondary schools to capture how students are minding their mental health during the COVID-19 outbreak. Entries are open until 29 January 2021, with winners being announced at a virtual awards ceremony in February.
