Autism Awareness

From Ms McElhinney

Hi all,

Thanks to all those who expressed an interest and who have already received their t-shirts. It is still not too late to register using the link below. You will register individually and a free t-shirt will be sent to you. During the month of October we will be taking photographs and we will do a school walk for those who have signed up.

We would love your help in raising awareness for this worthwhile charity Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland .

We are asking you to join us in the challenge of walking or running 50 miles in October and fundraise what you can during this period to raise funds to facilitate the training of Assistance dogs for children with Autism. Each trained Assistance dog changes the world for a child with autism and transforms the lives of the whole family.

Each registered participant will receive a free t-shirt so you can raise awareness while walking and share your participation in the #challenge on Social Media .

Here is a link to register

https://www.autismassistancedogsireland.ie/

Please forward your name to me by Monday afternoon if you are interested in joining the Scoil Mhuire team in this challenge.

Can I encourage you to take part in this, even if you can’t get a lot of sponsorship, anything will help. From our school's point of view it is just as important to raise awareness of Autism and how we can help those who have this diagnosis, in our community.

To whom it may concern,

I would personally like to invite you, or your business/group/committee to Buncrana’s Children’s Charity Annual General Meeting [AGM]. It will take place on Tuesday 5th October in the Buncrana Community Centre at 7.30 PM.

This is a great opportunity for us to showcase what we do and how we help the sick children in Buncrana / Inishowen. We support other community groups and businesses throughout the year and vice versa, your attendance would be very much appreciated.

Proceedings on the night will include the election of the new committee for 2021/2022 and the viewing of a video of our work throughout the year. We will also have a question and answer session where you can ask our committee any questions. There will be light refreshments afterwards.

Your attendance will be noted and very much appreciated. Thank you for your support throughout 2020/2021 and I sincerely hope you will continue to support our Charity throughout a hopefully very successful year in 2022.

Please R.S.V.P to the above contact number or email the Charity if you are able/ unable to attend on the night.

Many Thanks

They are looking for young people to join and help out if anyone is interested.

Courses

Centre for talented youth Ireland

These are online courses in Medicine, Psychology, Legal Studies, and Writing for transition Year students. The courses are offered by DCU and very impressive on the CV. Each course costs 200 euro. They also offer a talent search to discover gifted students. Closing date for applications is on the form. If you are interested and want to do this extra work in TY please collect an application from me or get more info from www.dcu.ie/ctyi

Let me know if you have any questions about this.

FAO Parents

Register your son/daughter for this if they have an interest in further studies in the sciences, medicine, pharmacy, nursing etc. This is normally an in person course with limited numbers. It is a great students have the opportunity to take part in it online with no limit on numbers. Our TY students really enjoyed it last year.

Transition Year MiniMed programme

The RCSI Transition Year MiniMed programme takes place annually in RCSI Dublin and RCSI Waterford and offers transition year students the opportunity to experience what it is like to train and work as a healthcare professional.

In February 2021, RCSI hosted an exciting virtual programme. The 2022 programme will again be virtual and will take place from Monday, 28 February to Friday, 4 March. The programme is open to all Transition Year students to take part.

All sections of the programme are carried out by leading professionals in their respective areas with a wide variety of topics – including general practice, heart surgery, pathology, paediatrics, forensic medicine, transplants, obstetrics and gynaecology, pharmacy and physiotherapy being covered during the programme.
