TY News Bulletin 24

09-May-22

TY Admin 9th May 2022

Hi All,

I am going to start with some reminders for this week.

First of all Sign Language continues this week 3.20- 4.30pm

Golf tomorrow is full, 34 names. 2-4pm. Students will make their way up to the North West Golf Club during their lunch. Please be respectful of the course as there is a competition going on. You will probably need 20 mins to walk up from the school. You will be split into two groups. Make sure the students getting the bus are in the first group and have enough time to walk back to the school. If you aren’t really that interested in golf please swap with someone who is a golfer but didn’t get a place.

The Hair and beauty demonstration has very low numbers. I intended blocking this with the golf but will cancel it if we don’t get the numbers this morning as it costs €80.

Irish, English and Maths exams are scheduled for today. Good luck with this everyone.

4B will have their spreadsheet exam tomorrow morning from 8.50 - 10.20 in the 3rd floor IT room. Please prepare for this. There are exercises to practice in the google classroom.

YSI Mural painting and Sandcastle competition with 1st years Tuesday 10th May

World Affairs workshops are taking place this Thursday. Please let Ms Gorney know if you are not going to be available for any reason. Thanks.

TY geography class will continue their work with the tidy towns and Ms Dowds at the pier Friday 13th May.

Podcasting workshops take place next Monday and Tuesday 16th & 17th May for all TY classes.

Final end of year trip planned to Ervey wood, Ness waterfall and Oakfire adventures on Monday 23rd of May. This trip will cost approximately €30 and will include lunch. This trip will finish your kms required for the President's Award.

It's important you are all on track now to graduate and meet all your deadlines over the next month.

Here is a ready reckoner of what you need to do to be organised.

Prioritise!

CHecklist

  1. Everyone is Registered for Gaisce, the President's Award. Get your Bronze Record Sheet filled in and signed this week. I need to have it asap so I can go online and request your award in time for graduation. Here is the link to the sheet.

  1. Get all your end of year assessments for your subjects in on time. Check your deadlines with your teachers. Two that I am aware of are Leadership to be on Friday 20th at the latest and Graphics to be finished by Tuesday 24th.

  1. If you have any outstanding certified exams or courses to catch up on, get a time organised with your teacher to complete them. This could be your Get Safe Work safe course, GAA future leaders certification, safe food course, practice driver theory exam, database exam etc.

  1. You will finish work experience on 18th of May so give your employer your report this week so you can get it back from them next week and return to the school to be assessed. Remember you get credits awarded for this paperwork (work experience). There will be a folder in the Programme coordinators classroom to upload your work experience diary. Will put a blank diary here too though you should be already filling it in

  1. Those students who are doing the JOhn Paul II award should get their Gold record sheet filled in this year. Some of your work for the Gaisce award will overlap so you could get the two sheets signed at the same time. You will not get your official John Paul Award until next year.

  1. Please add your photos of the year to the shared folder for your end of year video.https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1b4hfBUOKbEdiHDVPBmUZcQI5Dk3DMDPT?lfhs=2 Email them to me from your phone if its easier for you.

  1. Finally you all have a large piece of work to put together, an eportfolio of your years work. I have sent you the details of this already. Don’t leave this to the last minute. It’s worth 50 credits. The physical portfolio box will be displayed for your parents on graduation night.

  1. You will not finish up for the summer until all of your TY requirements are completed.

Don’t put these things on the long finger!!
