Uniform

Remember your proper school uniform and coat every day except Tuesday when you have PE. Then it’s your TY sweatshirt and dark bottoms, no alternatives please. Also for all trips etc students should make sure they are wearing their TY sweatshirt. Please let me know if you have any queries regarding this.

Work experience

I spoke to most students who have details outstanding in relation to their work experience last week. If you weren’t in school and need to complete your work experience information please do so as Ms McElhinney is now in charge of work experience and will be following up with employers starting this week.

Sign Language

The sign language course continues today from 3.20 - 4.30pm. It costs €15 for 5 weeks. If you didn’t go last week and wish to attend please go today.

Please make sure that any money owed for, Knock, Galway or sign language is paid as soon as possible either online or at the office thanks.

Choir

Cockhill Folk Group contacted Ms Barry to say that if any of our TYs would be interested in joining them they'd be more than welcome. They practice every Tuesday night at 8pm in the sacristy at Cockhill chapel. It could go towards your 1 HR of community activities for Gaisce and John Paul.

Tug of War

The inter schools tug of war competition takes place on the 4th of April in Clonmany. The organisers are looking for an extra mixed team if a group of you would get involved. Let Ms Mc Kinney know asap. Please make sure you get your practice in before the competition next Monday..

Sports Leadership Course

We have been offered the opportunity to have a sports leadership course run in the school over two days in four hour blocks finishing with a fun mini soccer session for first years. Please add your name to the attached sheet if you think you might be interested. It is a course designed by the FAI for TY students to give students an insight and understanding of what is involved in being a coach. All participants will receive a completion cert from Finn Harps Coach Development Programme. The cost per student is €25.

Irish Red Cross First Aid Course

A group of volunteers from the Irish Red Cross will be in all day Tuesday instructing you on Basic First Aid. This is a certified course. Please ensure you give them your full attention and follow all instructions. You should wear your PE uniform including a TY sweatshirt please. The team has requested that you all wear bottoms rather than a skirt. Please go to your first class as normal and you will be sent for. The course will take place in the Assembly Hall.

Competitions

Remember to enter the competitions shared last week and of course the graduate.ie competition that can be entered every week.

The Pitch Competition

The PublicJobs.ie Schools Advertising Challenge is a hands-on active learning project for Transition Year students but it also encourages peer-to-peer learning as part of a whole school approach to guidance.

To enter, students must create a 30 second video advertisement pitching the public sector as an attractive career pathway for their fellow students. Students can enter the competition individually or in groups of up to 6.

STEP 2 - Using Resources

On our website, publicjobs.ie/schools you will find The Pitch Competition Kit. This contains teacher guidelines as well as classroom resources for supporting your students through the steps of creating an entry for this competition, such as career workbooks, storyboarding and filming!
