TY News Bulletin 15

TY Admin 27th February 2023

This week is subject choice week. We are hoping that everyone has their subjects picked for 5th Year by the end of this week. If you are considering doing LCA can you please send Ms K McGonagle an email.

We will spend today's class going through the subject choice booklet, answering any questions you might have, discussing issues that students raise and if time permits looking at Careers Portal and Qualifax.

Mr Davis will also be getting you to fill in a form with your likely levels for Irish, English and Maths ie (Higher or Ordinary)

Before we get started on that, a few reminders……..

Bob a Job

Can students please give their money for this to their wellbeing teacher now

along with their card or if not their name.

Pop goes Primary

This takes place on Thursday at 7pm in the Assembly Hall with rehearsals taking place on Tuesday at 3pm for the acts. Students who have volunteered to help will be notified of their roles today.

Sign Language

Final names for this class will be taken today. Please email Ms McGonagle.

Soar Workshop

Can everyone remember that we are going to the Gateway Hotel after first class tomorrow Tuesday at 9.35 am. We will meet in the Assembly Hall first and then go down. Students should bring a snack with them as they will have a short 15 minute break. Lunch will be at the normal time and then back to school after lunch.

Work Experience

Can everyone make sure they have their work experience details in Ms McElhinney’s spreadsheet in the google classroom.

Subject Choice

Now take a look at the subject choice booklet with your teacher. Remember that all the details for your subject choice are in the Senior Cycle Subject Choice google classroom which has been shared with you. Also in your Careers class you will have, or will be having time to investigate careers and their related subjects, work on entry requirements for college, practice filling in application forms and work on interview skills. Also please ask your subject teachers about careers relevant to their department. The Guidance and Counselling Dept will also be your port of call if you have any specific questions relating to language and subject requirements for courses.

Don’t panic too much if you are not sure what you want to do when you leave school as of yet. Keep your subject choice broad, leaving your options open. You will figure it out.
