IACT

You must register and get started with this course. The first four modules are supposed to be completed in Microsoft Excel before mid term. Anyone who is only registering now needs to catch up. I will check who has registered and your progress this evening. If you stick to the schedule you will have the excel course finished this week and have earned your first cert.

You must register with your school email. Please only register once. I have pasted the instructions they sent below. The other courses that are available in this pack will be used for when you are not on work experience on Wednesdays.

Work Experience

We are still not recommending that students attend work experience at the minute but will rethink this when there is some relaxation of the covid guidelines.

Looking into Law course

This course will start the week after midterm for those students who sent me their name.

We are continuing with launching the programme as planned. Every Monday from 22nd February, for five weeks, a new link for a module will be placed on a webpage. We will send each teacher a link to this webpage and password, which we ask you to send to your students who are taking part. Each module will be approx two hours of work. You can choose how your students work through the two hours, whether they work through it alone, or within an online class. We will keep the links active until 26th April should you decide to wait until you are (hopefully!) back in physical classrooms.

As part of Justice Week 2021, we ask that all the students signed up for this programme complete a survey for us next week. It is completely anonymous and we would urge all students to complete it as honestly as possible. The results will be released on Wednesday 3rd March as part of a Justice Week initiative by The Bar of Ireland and representative bodies for the bars in Northern Ireland, England & Wales and Scotland. We will send this survey to you next week and thank you in advance for encouraging your students to complete it immediately. It is an exciting opportunity to be part of something that will attract lots of attention in the media.

Steps Engineering

Well done to the students who signed up for these courses. Hopefully we will be successful in securing the places. They start at varying times and run for between 3&5 days. Let me know if you get a place and when you are starting.

John Paul II

Ms O’Connor has a google classroom for these students. Please follow what she is sending you all. You are supposed to be joining Instagram live on a Monday night with Derry Youth.

Gaisce Award

Please remember that everyone is doing this award. You must keep a record of your physical 1 hour a week, a parent can sign this. You should also be helping out in some way. It's supposed to be community based or YSI or GAA future leaders but in lockdown if you can record how you helped out at home, helped a neighbour or relative that will work. Some of what you were asked to do on creative Wednesdays could count. Please keep a record as you go along and don’t leave it to the last week. YOu should have printed a Bronze record sheet for this from www.gaisce.ie. The personal skill you are asked to do is the IT class you are doing in school so you don’t have to worry about filling that section of the form.

Programmes & Workshops

Please attend all programmes and workshops you have signed up for. There are 6 already started or starting in the next two weeks. Everyone should be involved in something.

RCSI-Mini Med Programme

Well done to all the students taking part in the Royal College of Surgeons Minimed Programme this week. Great for anyone who has an interest in the field of Science.

Create a Home Competition

We have one team for this competition. Let me know if anyone else would like to do it. It's not too late to join. Has the group got together online and started working on the project? I will check with Ms Grant as to what supports she has put in place

Intergenerational Project

Thanks to the students who have registered for this project. YOu will be knitting hats and blankets for the neonatal unit in Letterkenny hospital. The course will be run virtually and probably take place on a Monday morning. You need to have an adult that you can pair up with and their address, to send them the wool and needles. Hopefully you can find an older neighbour, aunt, uncle or grandparent who can buddy up with you to do this. Be great if they were able to access online too but this is not essential. If you cannot find someone outside the home you can get a parent to do it with you. Please fill in the google doc I shared with you at the start of last week detailing who will buddy you. If anyone else would like to join they still can.

Youthscape

Cohort 8 should still be meeting on a Tuesday from 11.30-12.30 and Cohort 9 from 11.30-12.30 on a Thursday. Cohort 9 will also be meeting Laura Doherty online at 9.30am on a Thursday morning for two weeks starting this week. I wonder can 8&9 join together now?? I could ask.

A Bridge Beyond- Digital Media Project

Eventually this project is starting. This Friday will be your first virtual class. It will run from 9.30 - 12pm and will be facilitated by someone from Wall to Wall music and Ms Nicola McKinley from Scoil Mhuire. This is a very exciting project I think you will really enjoy. It is compulsory that everyone who has signed up attends. I will send Fran a message to mark you out from work for teachers for Period 1 and Period 6.

Subject Choice

This will take place on Thursday at 1.10pm for you all. Ms Doogan will send you a link to an online meet. Your parents will join a meet on Thursday night at 7pm to hear the presentation also. Please help your parents facilitate this if they are not familiar with google meet.

Inishowen Music Project

Post shared on Facebook regarding a survey of teenagers and their thoughts on music projects they would like to see in Inishowen during the summer. Please fill this in if it is of interest to you.

Stem in Engineering
