Google classroom

A few teachers have been in touch to say that some of you haven’t joined their google classroom. Can you check in your drive if there is a class you don’t have please and email the teacher for an invite.

Virtual work

Please join all live lessons. You are never going to have too much work so please do what is requested. If you cannot join due to illness, device availability or internet issues can you please email that teacher and let them know so they can allow for this when recording attendance. In most cases you will still be expected to do the work assigned but later that day instead. Some lessons will be pre recorded and have a deadline for completion, you must meet these deadlines as the teacher will not have time to keep going back to check after. They will have moved all to a whole new set of work from students.

Looking into Law course

This course will start the week after midterm for those students who sent me their name.

Steps Engineering

Well done to the students who signed up for these courses. Hopefully we will be successful in securing the places.

John Paul II

Ms O’Connor has a google classroom for these students. Please follow what she is sending you all. You are supposed to be joining Instagram live on a Monday night with Derry Youth. They have also set up a book club for John Paul students.

Gaisce Award

Please remember that everyone is doing this award. You must keep a record of your physical 1 hour a week, a parent can sign this. You should also be helping out in some way. It's supposed to be community based or YSI or GAA future leaders but in lockdown if you can record how you helped out at home, helped a neighbour or relative that will work. Some of what you were asked to do on creative Wednesdays could count. Please keep a record as you go along and don’t leave it to the last week. YOu should have printed a Bronze record sheet for this from The personal skill you are asked to do is the IT class you are doing in school so you don’t have to worry about filling that section of the form.

Work Experience

We are still not recommending that students attend work experience at the minute but will rethink this when there is some relaxation of the covid guidelines.

Programmes & Workshops

Please attend all programmes and workshops you have signed up for. There are 6 already started or starting in the next two weeks. Everyone should be involved in something.

Creative Wednesday’s

For this Wednesday 10th Feb I would like you to do two things.

  1. Do the Art project that Ms Deeney has set on facebook. I will share it on our TY page and set up a google classroom for it. She has asked that students make a heart in nature or using nature, spreading a bit of love and for the week that’s in it. Send me your pics.
  2. We have been asked by Mental Health Ireland to help promote positive mental wellbeing.

On Pancake Tuesday, 16th February, Mental Health Ireland is celebrating our Smiley Pancake Day.

Everyone loves a pancake and we could all do with sharing a smile right about now, so we are inviting you to pop a smile on your pancakes to support Mental Health Ireland and the work they do.

As pancake Tuesday is during mid term break I would like you all to decorate your pancakes this Wednesday instead. Get some smiles on. This is your chance to practice your pancake making skills for the 16th. Send in your pics, post on your social media from the 16th with the hashtag #smileypancake. There are prizes for the best shared pics and if you like you can ask people to donate to mental health Ireland by texting MHI to 50300 to donate 4 euro.
