TY Admin Week 29

Hi All,

We are getting close to the end of our TY year and unfortunately it hasn’t been as expected. There are a number of things we didn’t get to do but everyone’s plans have been disrupted and we have to be grateful that we are all well and keeping to the restrictions for everyone's safety.

I am hoping that Transition Years will be in a position to finish up completely next Friday 22nd May. That is if all the required work for grading is completed by the students.

Every subject teacher will have given a piece of work or online activity to be used for your final credits. Please ensure all of these items are being submitted for assessment. A number of Religion and IT assignments are still outstanding for myself.

There are also the overall pieces of work to complete that are used for your credits. These are

  1. Work Experience Diary
  2. Gaisce Credit sheet & Photos
  3. Leadership for Life Presentations
  4. Eportfolio Assessment

If the work is not in then you may delay finishing up for the holidays. Once again there are a number of the above pieces of work still to be submitted by students.

I would like to congratulate all the students who went above and beyond the work they were assigned to do and participated in many of the suggested extra activities and courses

  1. Retail Ireland Digital Marketing
  2. Big Smoke English writing course
  3. Poetry Ireland
  4. Tinpot Radio Transmission course
  5. Derry Youth activities
  6. Alison courses
  7. Scoil Mhuire Social Media Competitions and community activities eg wreaths for Psalm Sunday and the Easter cards for neighbours and Buncrana nursing unit.

I would also like to congratulate all the students who have continued to engage with the Citizenship course online with Niamh, Gary & Inishowen Partnership.

Students are also signed up for an online Arts4Youth dance class every Tuesday please continue to engage with these classes as you have signed up for them. This course will hold a summer meet up session when it is safe to do so.

A number of you have taken forms and signed up for the Cohort 7 Youthscape course which was supposed to start in school after Easter, The whole format of the course has now had to be redesigned. I have sent you an email regarding this. It is now open to any student who wishes to take part.

Cohort 7 hours have been reduced to 125 hours and it is all online. Also because we are not going on trips or providing lunches there is now an incentive of 200 euro for anyone that engages fully and completes the programme. This may be of interest to you and could keep you occupied over the summer. Let me know if you are interested. It is a very supportive course and comes with certification.

I have been delighted at the great work the Food class has been doing. The photos are brilliant. I’m sure it tasted as good, and your families were delighted with the treat.

I would like to wish The Build a Bank team the very best of luck in the National Final on Thursday, when they will do an online presentation to the judges. They have worked very hard and deserve to do well.

If any student has won a competition this year can they drop me a quick email and let me know.

Finally can I remind you that I have set up a google meet for tomorrow at 12. It may turn out to be a bit of a car crash as I am finding the chromebook not the best for online meetings and my internet can be dodgy but we’ll see how it goes.

See you then.
