TY Admin Week 28

TY Admin - 5th May 2020

HI All,

Hope you are all keeping well. Thank god for the beautiful weather. It definitely helps.

At this stage you all should have submitted your diary and gaisce record sheet. These will both count towards your overall grade.

My class should have sent in their leadership for life presentation. This is another important piece of work and counts towards you getting your certificate for the course as well as the marks going towards your final grade.

Everyone should be completing their Fetac IT exercises in Google slides. We will try and organise the exams for this as soon as possible.

John Paul students should do their best to continue following and submitting work to the Derry youth facebook page and keep connecting with Ms O’Connor regarding final submissions.

Have any students set up a May Altar or made the paper aeroplanes that Ms T McElhinney asked you to do in raising awareness of Autism. If so please send me a picture.

Ms A Deeney has asked me to remind you to get your history and english work into her so that she can get it corrected and assessed. The deadline was in last week's news. Think it was the 11th/12th May.

Can all students engage with their teachers and get the end of year work all in over the next couple of weeks so final assessments can be completed and reports filled in.

So your final piece of work for me as TY coordinator is to put together your eportfolio. This will count as 50 credits. I have already set this up and sent it to you in a google classroom but I will copy and paste the instructions here also.

How to prepare for your Transition Year Portfolio for Assessment

Begin your eportfolio by answering the following general questions. It can be completed in whatever format you like, doc, slides, video presentation etc

  1. What are your top three achievements in Transition Year?

  1. Which one are you most proud of and why?

  1. What Work Experience placement did you most enjoy during Transition Year and why?

  1. What personal strengths did you discover while on Work Experience during the year?

  1. Did you become aware of any personal skills on which you could improve?

  1. Did Work Experience give you any insights into your future career path?

  1. What was the highlight of Transition Year for you?

  1. Did you participate fully in Transition Year?

  1. What was the greatest challenge for you in Transition Year?

Now add the items or pieces of work.

All students should have pieces of their best/favourite activity or work for each month of TY (7 items minimum) up until March 2020.

These should be put together in a box, folder or scrap book that represents you for the year. Make sure you include a photo of this box at the start of your presentation.

Take a photo of your item and add it to an explanation in whatever presentation format you are using.

Your explanation should include

  • An explanation of the piece of work or activity

Why you chose this activity or piece of work

  • What you enjoyed most about it
  • What you learned about yourself by experiencing/doing it.

You will be marked on the photographed contents of your portfolio box, your explanation of each, your presentation skills and how you evaluate your experiences from the year

Possible items which could be included in the Portfolio box/folder are

  1. Piece of work from class
  2. Project you prepared
  3. Competition details
  4. Work Experience item eg business card, Drill
  5. Ski Pass
  6. Hotel pen
  7. Any photograph of an activity
  8. Product made for enterprise
  9. Certificate received

A high standard is expected here folks. No half measures. You have until the 12th of May to complete this. It will be worth 50 credits.

Please think outside the box for what you need inside the box.
