Scoil Mhuire Transition Year students joined together this week to celebrate International Day of Peace 2016, as part of the School’s Development Education programme based on Global Citizenship. Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21st September. The United Nations General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. This event took place while Donegal paid tribute to it’s very first Nobel Peace Prize winner, Dr William Campbell, during his recent visit back home, whose breakthrough in Science has helped eliminate parasitic diseases such as river blindness around developing countries in Africa, and Latin America. Scoil Mhuire congratulates Dr Campbell in this great achievement for Donegal. Who knows where Donegal’s next Nobel Prize Winner will hail from!
