Scoil Mhuire Athlete selected to represent Ulster in the Tailteann Irish Schools Inter-Provincial Championships.

IMG_20160617_140008Pat Loughrey is a student in Scoil Mhuire Buncrana and is an outstanding young athlete. This academic year he has won the Donegal and Mid-Ulster cross country schools events. More recently, he took gold at the Ulster schools track & field in the 3000m race, with an impressive time of 09:42. Pat went on to compete in the Irish Schools Championships in Tullamore on the 4th June, where he finished 6th overall. He received the deserved title of Scoil Mhuire’s  ‘Athlete of the Year’ at this year’s school prize giving.

Pat has now been selected to represent Ulster in the Tailteann Irish Schools Inter-Provincial Finals in Santry, Dublin, on the 25th June 2016. It is a great honour to be chosen for the Tailteann Games, where Ireland’s top intermediate athletes will compete for a chance to progress on to the International Schools Championships, which will take place in Kent in July. Fergus Cox represented the school at these finals last year, and won gold in the Javelin competition. Scoil Mhuire would like to wish Pat the very best of luck in the upcoming competition, we have no doubt that this extremely talented athlete is one to watch.
